Boating, Fishing, and Travel Information for Fort McRee Breakwater, Pensacola Bay, FL

Fort Mcree on the eastern tip of Perdido Key was built in 1834 as part of an effort by the U.S. to better protect Pensacola Bay after the War of 1812. The fort saw action in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War, during which the fort was burned and destroyed. Activity returned to the fort when coastal defenses became important again in World War II. Fort McRee was not well maintained and now little remains, but what does still stand belongs to the National Park Service.
